Randstad USA - Recruitment Review
I am truly disappointed from the way my interview was held
I would like to make a complaint about the way I was treated by one of your employees in Heilbronn, Germany during my phone-interview today.I have applied for a position of an english-correspondent, and I was not asked throughout the interview a single word of English....
During the 10-minutes interview I only had to narrate my CV in German. At the end I was only told, that I was not suitable for the position. As an answer to my question, I was further explained that I simply do not fulfill the requirements, and that I was not allowed to receive any further information due to its confidentiality. I do not state, that I was flawless in my German, neither that I meet the requirements of the position.
I just want to turn your attention to the matter, because I believe that this was not the right way to handle this particular position, neither the right way to treat people like me, who are highly motivated to find a suitable job in a foreign country. I am able to provide more details wenn You require such.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation. Zornitsa Kovacheva

Cold call "recruiting" SCAM to solicit your references for new business.
Randstad reached out to me in January of this year with what sounded like a good opportunity. It was a complete cold call. The job the recruiter sounded ideal. I was not looking for a new position and am happy with my current job. I get these type of inquiries from time to time but rarely over the phone. Most often they come in the form of LinkedIn messages or emails. This job sounded interesting. The most interesting part? The salary range - which the recruiter lead with. Clever.
Once she had me on the hook, she reeled me in, asking for my resume and references before setting up an in-person interview with her where she could share more details about the job and get to know me better.
I told her my LinkedIn profile was up to date and accurate. She had found me on LinkedIn, and was cold calling me, so why should she need my resume to review? No difference between what she'd just read online and what I'd send her in a PDF. She gave some half-answer about just needing to see how I had it setup then suddenly became distracted, apologized and quickly disconnected. A bit rude, and in hindsight, very telling. At this point, I should have listened to that little voice that says something didn't seem right!
I literally went into LinkedIn and generated a PDF version of my resume and emailed it to her. She responded within seconds to remind me she also needed at least five references. I didn't give this much thought as I knew my references would speak highly of me and that reference checking typically comes after the initial interviews as checking every reference of every candidate would just cause needless work for the recruiters.
I typed out a quick list and shot it over.
I was texting out a message to my first reference, a former supervisor who had moved on to a new firm, when he texted first: "I'm on the phone with a recruiter asking about you..."
A few minutes later he gave me a call to explain the bizarre conversation he just had. The recruiter asked one question about me - did he know me? Then she launched into several questions about him as this imitation reference check gave way to its true purpose: new business solicitation. The recruiter wasn't calling about me and there was no job. She was trying to get connections to people in the finance industry and was using the guise of a reference check to drum up new business for Randstad. Clever, but not cool when she was using my name to do it.
My former boss was very understanding about it and said he had seen this a few times before and that headhunters and recruiters are shameless in general, and to contact this one immediately and bluntly tell her to cease with this operation.
As my former boss and I were chatting, an email from another reference came in. I do have to give it to this recruiter for being persistent and quick; she was wasting no time whatsoever. This reference actually apologized because she said she was unable to speak to the recruiter when she called (my reference was boarding a flight to go out and see a client) but would call her back when she landed and tell her only good things about me.
I was still on the line with my first reference as this email came in so I told him I had to go and take care of this. I phoned the recruiter but went to voicemail after two rings. This, as most people know is a sign you have manually been sent to voicemail. So, now anger was by this point growing. I left her a voicemail to call me back, I wanted to speak to her regarding the opportunity, but I also explicitly told her to stop contacting my references.
When I did not hear back by the end of the day, I called again. Again, went to voicemail after a short number of rings. Again I left a voicemail. After work I contacted the remaining references to explain myself and all said they had identical experiences: calls that were announced as reference checks but quickly turned into sales pitches/fact finding missions about their businesses. Both said they knew something was off about the situation, but luckily, all are good enough people with enough respect for me that it did not bother them.
I sent one final chaser email to this recruiter, but never heard back. I chalked it up to experience, but was still unhappy.
Then, yesterday, Friday, May 27 2016, I got another text from one of the references on my list asking why Randstad was calling them AGAIN for a reference check on me. I was furious. I dug in my email and found the recruiters number and gave her a call. She actually answered this time and I unloaded on her.
I was working from home on the Friday before the Memorial Day holiday and was able to speak a little more freely than I would have in the office. After I exploded, she shot back that she hadn't called anyone and didn't know who I was. I reminded her of the scam she ran on me earlier in the year and I could tell by the drop in her vocal tone and abrupt pause that almost sounded like a gasp that she probably really didn't remember me personally but she certainly knew I knew what she had been doing. She stammered and tried to recover, but when she didn't have a leg to stand on she just repeated that she hadn't called anyone asking about me on Friday and hung up.
I later spoke to the reference/friend who had texted and indeed, this time it was a man who was calling on behalf of Randstad. I checked my work voicemail and sure enough, almost word for word, almost as if reading a script a male recruiter from the same Randstad office called me on Friday morning with talk of a vague, boiler-plate job description which sounded too good to be true. It appears that after he left the message he viewed that as enough clearance to cold-call the reference list I had given his colleague months ago when she was pulling the same scam.
Shame on Randstad.
Don't go to College/Bay office at lunch hour: it's a waste of time.
Preferred solution: Look elsewhere.

RANDSTADT BEWARE
Beware of working for Fedex under the name of Randstadt. You get hired under the assumption you will be working directly for FedEx only to find out you are just an employee for Randstadt and then you find out that you are a (vendor) with no benefits, no sick days, no paid holidays, absolutely nothing except for what the government says you have to cover.
Overtime is non-existent. If they do need overtime, instead of paying you, they have you leave early on another day so as not to pay you, is that legal I ask? Meanwhile, FedEx, a multi billion dollar conglomerate, is living rich off their customers and employees paying a minimum substandard living wage to their employees who take the brunt of the worse customer calls imaginable. Customer service reps are hired from outside the US for example in South America for a whopping $5 an hour.
Their English is horrible in most cases unintelligible and they work their day by simply transferring calls to another department which by then the customer is irritable and irate and taking it out on the next representative yours truly and others, it is a mess. We don't get paid enough for the abuse. Then you get called in to human resouses and warned for not being submissive enough, don't they understand whats needs to be done when the assaults happen and that we are human beings with feelings and not robots? There are lots of favoritism and discrimination.
Areas in the office can be very caotic and it's difficult to do your job when things are not going well which is always, emotions are off the chart running high in responce to dissatisfaction with the service Randstadt provides. There are high turnover, very high. The manager(s) lack the skills needed for the intensity found in this boiler room atmosphere not to mention a certant lack of education, for instance, the manager comes in straight to their office, will not walk around or to put it better supervise and evaluate in preparation of what will become a hectic day, and knowing the stress and conditions that this job brings will not show appreciation of the employees doing the heavy lifting, nothing! Raises are a joke, who can live with a .04 cent raise per year and yours truly on my second year anniversary.
For the effort this job demands it would not be asking too much to be paid $15 to $20 per hr with benefits the company can very well afford it. Are we living in a third world country and what would you say if a loved one of yous died and you needed to make arrangements with the emotions that go along with what the moment calls for and then the next thing you hear from you employer is how soon will you be back? This company is a joke. Training preparation is inadequate it does not cover everything and is way too long, it's laughable.
In this company there is little flexibility, lack of advancement opportunities, (unless you are the right color or you are in the vanacular: ghetto), you are stuck with old systems that take way too long to do what needs to be done and this is from my experience while working for lawyers in New York City. I was fired on my two year aniversay with no warning, in violation of their own rules. I did not miss a day I was always the empolyee of the mouth which amounted to nothing in this setting and I have more capabilities and more experience, than the lot, had they only considered an outstanding resume. Do not work for Randstadt, their only interest is what they will get in their already deep pockets at the end of the day.
All they want are bodies to fill in the constant voids and vacancies. There has to be a labor law against this or labor attorney who understands this and will fight against this unfair company.

I just had a work from home oppurtunity from Randstad. After receiving the offer letter they wanted me to purchase, through them, $1150 worth of computer equipment required for the position.
I am somewhat up to date on hardware pricing because I needed a new laptop and that amount of money wouldn't have purchased half of it. Fortunately, the banking info I gave to set my direct deposit was an account that had no money. What are my next steps?
Who to, or do I report it? Lynn Woodbury, TN
I have received emails and countless reminders for these interview appointments. However, no one calls at the scheduled time.
Haven't received any response to the emails that I sent to the recruiter who was supposed to call. When I try to call the 630 # the call fails or just rings with no response / voicemail setup.
I keep getting the same type of calls and they are claiming to be from Randstad, but they are asking for information they should already have.
Randstad are scam artists.
Great posting with excellent information! Sadly, what you experienced is now the norm with most staffing agencies.
The primary offenders who come to my mind are Aerotek, Insight Global and AppleOne. Now, I can add Randstad to the list. More and more hopeful applicants are finding out the hard way there is no exciting, well-paying position for them; their references are simply needed to drum up business for a recruiter.
I have read several accounts of people actually being told by their references they may no longer use them, as they were tired of the sales calls from these agencies. Lying to people and making up jobs that don't exist, just to get business leads from them is highly unethical and I hope people start fighting back against this disgusting practice.
